It’s the day after Pretty Little Lyon’s book birthday. Huzzah! Thank you to everyone who purchased the book, read it, plans to read it, and/or left a review. I’m so thrilled to hear that readers are enjoying the great twist at the end. [No spoilers] And thank you to Dragonblade Publishing for the beautiful celebratory flowers. They made my day! ❤️

What do these have in common?

A nutty professor. The Rosetta Stone. An undercover investigator. A gambling hell. A brothel madam. Blackmail. Scandal.

Pretty Little Lyon

Who is sending Charlotta Walcot threatening notes? Why would anyone cast aspersions against her father, a mild-mannered professor of antiquities at Cambridge University? As for herself, although she has no plans to wed, why would that be of issue to anyone to save herself? Desperate to swerve the scandal that would destroy both her and her father’s reputations, Charlotta dares to venture into the Lyon’s Den, a gambling hall and house of ill repute in London’s fashionable Whitehall.
Enter the world of the most notorious gambling den in London, where matches are made… unusually. Welcome to the world of THE LYON’S DEN: The Black Widow of Whitehall Connected World, where the underground of Regency London thrives… and loves.

If you do not marry by Season’s end, I shall expose the seedy side of your father’s past, thereby damaging his reputation—and yours by proxy—condemning you both to a life of destitution and despair.

There, she begs its owner, the mysterious Black Widow, Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon, to use her connections to identify her blackmailer.

But that is not the end of Charlotta’s troubles.

Obliged to attend her cousins’ coming-out ball, she collides with Lord Septimus Grey. After witnessing the delivery of another unpleasant note to her, Septimus offers his help. But how can Charlotta place her trust in him since he is the man who, years ago, stole her young and impressionable heart?

Cover reveal for THE WIDOW WORE PLAID!

Author, books, Historical romance, Jenna Jaxon, New Release, Regency Romance, romance, The Widow's Club Series

Ahoy, me hearties! My friend, Jenna Jaxon, is revealing the cover for her December 28th release of THE WIDOW WORE PLAID, and I’m helping her share the news! Congratulations, Lady Jenna! Read on to learn more about book six in The Widow’s Club Series.

The Battle of Waterloo made them widows, but each has found new happiness. And Jane, Lady John Tarkington, intends to keep her freedom, even if love—and one particular gentleman—are determined to claim her heart  . . .

It is a truth rarely acknowledged—at least in public—that a wealthy widow is free to pursue a great many adventures. For two years, Jane has privately enjoyed her independence. Why should she remarry, even when the gentleman proposing is as wonderful as Gareth, Lord Kinellan? She entreats him never to ask her again. But as her Widows’ Club friends—now all joyfully remarried—gather at Castle Kinellan, Jane begins to wonder if stubbornness has led her to make a terrible mistake . . .

Kinellan needs a wife to give him an heir, and he wants that wife to be Jane. They are perfect together in every way, yet she continually refuses him. Just as he is on the point of convincing her, a series of accidents befall Gareth and point to an enemy in their midst. He has promised Jane a passionate future filled with devotion, but can he keep them both alive long enough to secure it?

Excerpt

Laughing together they approached the horses, who were quietly cropping grass. Kinellan adjusted the girth first on Penelope, then tossed Jane up and handed her the reins. He had just done the same for Hector, tightening the saddle before he slung the carry bag over the cantle when a shot rang out from the woods, kicking up dust right behind the horse’s hooves. Hector danced sideways, forcing Kinellan out into the yard. The pack slid off the saddle onto the dirt.

Jane’s head shot up. “What was that?”

Kinellan spun around, peering into the trees. “Hello! Who’s—”

A second shot smacked into Kinellan’s shoulder and he staggered backward into the spooked horse.

“Gareth!” Jane turned Penelope into a tight circle, her attention focused solely on Kinellan, who had managed to move to the other side of the animal, putting that barrier between him and danger. Blood seeped from his shoulder, yet somehow he coolly scanned the woods for the intruder.

“Jane, ride out,” he called to her, not taking his gaze from the forest. “Down the path as quick as you can. Follow the trail back to the castle.”

“No. You’re wounded.” She stilled the dancing Penelope and unhooked her leg from the pommel.

“Stop! Don’t get down from the horse. You won’t be able to remount.”

Uneasily, she slid her leg back onto the saddle and gathered the reins.

Kinellan had moved toward Hector’s head and twitched the bush to release the reins. “I’ll be right behind you.”

“I’m waiting for you.”

Cursing, he turned the frightened horse and was ducking under its chin when another shot kicked up dirt and rocks directly beneath his feet. Hector reared, throwing Kinellan to the ground, then took off down the trail at a gallop.

Ahoy, me hearties! I’m back, and I’m raisin’ the signal flag in honor of historical fiction Author TJ London and her new book, The Traitor! Happy release day, Lady TJ!!!

41z3h1GlDRLSpy. Liar. Scoundrel. Redcoat.

Provocateur and spy for His Majesty, Captain John Carlisle returns to Fort Niagara with the secrets he stole in the arms of the beautiful Oneida innkeeper, Dellis McKesson. Determined to complete his mission and clear his name, he’ll see justice done—and damn the consequences. Now, he finds himself drawn into political intrigue as the British prepare to launch a three-pronged attack that will bring the Rebels and the Mohawk River Valley to its knees.

A dangerous revelation finds Dellis as whispers of intrigue insinuate her beloved is not all that he seems. Unwilling to wait for her lover’s return, she sets out in search of the truth as the Onieda begin negotiations with the Rebels, breaking the neutrality agreement with the crown. A bold move that will stoke a fire between the brother tribes and lead to a bloody inter-confederacy war—one Dellis predicted, and one John incited.

While war between the colonies and the King smolders, the punishing winter of 1777 allows the perfect opportunity for old enemies to settle scores, lying in wait, ready to exploit John’s one weakness—his heart. John is not an innocent man. The truth he’s long tried to hide from can no longer be ignored, the ghosts of the past seeking justice, and karma wanting payment for sins so dark they cannot be forgiven.

In case you missed it, The Tory is TJ London’s first book in the Redcoats and Rebels Saga. (I ask you, aren’t these covers FABulous?) 🙂

51BV7K7yewL._SY346_His King or His Conscience…which will he choose?

It is the winter of 1776, and Captain John Carlisle, one of His Majesty’s not-so-finest, has gone back to the scene of the crime to right a wrong so dark it left a permanent stain on what was once an illustrious career and left a man broken, defeated, in search of justice…

In an effort to win back his commission, he must discover the true nature of the relationship between the Six Nations of the Iroquois and the Colonial Army. Undercover as a war profiteer, John travels to the treacherous Mohawk River Valley and infiltrates local society, making friends with those he’s come to betray.

But a chance meeting with a beautiful half Oneida innkeeper, whose tragic history is integrally linked to his own, will provide him with the intelligence he needs to complete his mission—and devastate her people.

Now, as the flames of war threaten to consume the Mohawk Valley, John has the chance to not only serve King and country, but to clear his name. When the truth he uncovers ties his own secrets to those in the highest positions of the British military and threatens the very life of the woman he’s come to love, he will be forced to make a choice…

As an author her goal is to fill in the gaps, writing stories about missing history, those little places that are so interesting yet sadly forgotten. Her favorite time periods to write in are first and foremost the American Revolutionary War, the French Revolution, the French and Indian War, the Russian Revolution and the Victorian Era. Her passions are traveling, writing, reading, barre, and sharing a glass of wine with her friends, while she collects experiences in this drama called life. IMG_9093I’m thrilled that I got to meet Lady TJ in Riverside, CA, at the Historical Romance Retreat (HRR), Sept 12-16.

Lady Tj is spunky and fun, and oh so smart! (And that red coat with the bric-a-brac! LOVE!)

Here we are with Lady Kathryn le Veque and two unruly pirates. (What can I say? When the pirate’s away… Sorry, Lady Kathryn, we’re just followin’ our natural inclination to pillage and pilfer!) 😉

IMG_8794

Lady TJ has been very busy researching her saga, with a focus on the six nations of the Iroquois. How ironic it is that I’ve chosen to spotlight the Napoleonic Wars and smuggling across the pond twenty-five years later where Britain experienced better success. (Pirate!)

(Hamming it up together. I’m dressed as Britain’s beloved and immortal Vice-Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson. Lady TJ is sporting that impressive coat!)

61l02n4c-HL._SX349_BO1,204,203,200_One of the first books I read as a child was The Winter at Valley Forge from Landmark Books. The imagery was so vivid, I actually felt like I was freezing along with Washington’s doomed men. (Even now, I can feel the bitter cold on my fingertips.) The Winter at Valley Forge influenced my passion for history at an early age. And I can’t wait to step once more into the revolution with Lady TJ’s Redcoats and Rebels Saga!

Congrats, Lady TJ! Wishing you fare winds and magnificent success!!!

In the 1700s, a scandal erupted in the royal palaces of Denmark that began behind closed bedroom doors and ended in imprisonment and execution and upheaval when a love affair between a neglected wife and an ambitious doctor hurtled headlong into a political coup. It is far from a fairy tale and for the players in this story, there was to be no happily ever after.

Caroline Matilda by Francis CotesThe story began when Caroline Matilda of Great Britain, the youngest child of Frederick, Prince of Wales, and Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, became betrothed to her cousin, King Christian VII of Denmark. Caroline had been raised in seclusion, a world away from the formal manners and customs of the court and she had little interest in royal life, preferring to devote herself to nature and equestrian pursuits.

Christian VII by Alexander RoslinCaroline Matilda’s quiet days ended at the age of 15 when the very reluctant princess traveled to Copenhagen to become Christian’s wife. Two years her senior and less than twelve months into his reign, Christian already enjoyed an eccentric reputation, though the full extent of his mental illness had yet to show itself. They were married at the Christiansborg Palace on 9 November 1766, and Caroline already found herself in a situation for which she was ill-prepared. Continue reading →

Take it away, Lady Collette!

My most recent book had me digging into Scottish archives and researching the history of divorce in Scotland. Though it’s true, divorces were somewhat easier to achieve in Scotland than in England, where they were almost impossible to obtain, the process wasn’t so simple or all that common. As part of Author Tina Gayle‘s #RomanticTravel Fall Blog Exchange, welcome Author Patricia Preston to Rogues, Rebels & Rakes! Lady Patricia is sharing inspiration for her new LaFayette Falls Series and she’s offering a #giveaway in honor of her Sept. 13th release!

romantictraveltracecollage

I love autumn and the Natchez Trace in Tennessee has provided me with plenty of inspiration for the fictional setting, Lafayette Falls, that I’m using in my contemporary romances for Lyrical Shine. The drive is leisurely and stunning along the Trace in the fall. This is a national parkway so there are no stores, gas stations, power lines or commercial traffic on the Trace. It is steeped in history along with pastoral beauty. Great for photographers.

So if you want to get out on a pretty fall day for a drive and a picnic, check out these places.

Rock Creek. You can skip across the creek on square rocks. Fall Hollow is a lovely waterfall. I used it as a model for the waterfall in my book. It is an easy walk from the roadside. Jackson Fall is a larger waterfall and a longer hike from the road. There is also a portion of the original Trace that you can hike. This is the path Jackson’s army took on the way home from the Battle of New Orleans. One of my favorite overlooks is Baker’s Bluff which features a working 19-century farm.

To learn more about all the sightseeing stops along the Trace, go to: https://www.nps.gov/natr/index.htm      and https://www.facebook.com/natcheztracetravel/?fref=ts

My newest book, ONE WEEK IN YOUR ARMS, is mainstream contemporary romance filled with witty, charismatic characters. The fun, fast-paced plot features a secret baby, a billionaire baby daddy hero who needs a pretend girlfriend for a week, and a pretty doctor who is desperate to keep her child a secret. Unfortunately for the intrepid heroine, Marla, she needs money for her community clinic so she has no choice but to spend a week in paradise with the one man who can destroy her life. How can she say no? (Personally, I couldn’t say no. Could you?)

 ~ Excerpt ~

She picked up the letter opener. Her heart palpitated in sheer terror as she slid the opener under the flap of the envelope. With the envelope open, she peeped inside to see one folded sheet of stationery.

After six years, what could he possibly have to say?

She pictured him, standing beside a black truck in the drive of Royal Oaks, an old estate belonging to his grandmother. She recalled the date. June twenty-eighth. The day they had said goodbye had been a warm, blustery day in Tennessee. A summer storm was heading toward the rolling hills near Nashville.

The wind made a mess of Carson’s unruly dark hair. His dark blue eyes were hidden by a pair of mirrored lens aviators, and his alpha-male physique tested the seams of his polo shirt.

“If I’m ever back in town, I’ll look you up,” he promised as their casual affair came to an inevitable end. For three weeks, they had been together and finally, the time had come for them to go their separate ways. She hadn’t realized it would be so difficult.

“Sure.” She forced a smile of goodwill. After all, they weren’t parting in anger, or in love for that matter. And it was unlikely that she would ever see him again.

“I had a great time,” she confessed boldly. She’d loved every minute of their brief, steamy affair. Talk about a summer break to remember. She grinned.

He gave her cheek a stroke. “You’ll make a great doctor.”

“You think so?”

“Yeah.” He grinned. “You certainly know all there is to know about male anatomy.”

“Yours, at least.” She laughed. Then she hopped up on her toes and gave him a quick kiss. “Goodbye, Carson Blackwell.”

She stepped away from him. Now was the time to face what was ahead. A grueling three-year residency. There would be no more time for long summer nights, tangled sheets, and sighs against swollen lips. She walked toward her small, sturdy hatchback. Before she opened the driver’s door, she looked up and met his gaze.

“Goodbye,” he called.

At that moment, she’d had an odd sensation in her chest that her life was never going to be the same.

Her dream-come-true would be a townhouse in the French Quarter so she could party twenty-four seven. She never misses Supernatural or the Walking Dead. Sam, Dean, and Darryl fangirl!! She is repped by the Seymour Agency and currently working on a contemporary romance series, Love Heals All, for Lyrical Shine imprint of Kensington Books.

Available titles include Amazon best sellers in comedy, “The Yard Sale” and “Laid to Rest,” as well as sexy historical romances: To Save a Lady and Almost an Outlaw. Coming in September is the first book in the Love Heals All series from Kensington Boos, One Week in Your Arms.
